MILAN - Having finished preparation in Rome, the Italy Under 21 team - with Alberto Paloschi in the squad - arrived in Toulon this morning. This year, the traditional Espoirs Toulon tournament will be hold between tomorrow and June 12. As reported by the official website of FIGC, the Azzurrini will make their debut tomorrow, against Ivory Coast. Afterwards, Italy, who have been drawn in Group A, will meet Portugal at 19.30 CET on Friday, June 3, before taking on Colombia at 18.30 CET on Sunday, June 5.

MILAN REGIONAL GIOVANISSIMI WIN NICCOLÓ GALLI TOURNAMENT

After having won the tournament in 2002, 2004, 2006 and 2009, Milan claimed the Niccolò Galli trophy for the fifth time. The tournament held in Florence between May 27 and 29 and organised for children born in 1998, saw Milan first beat Empoli 1-0, then demolsh Atalanta 6-2 thanks to four goals from Cutrone and strikes from Locatelli and Lamas. In the final, coach De Vecchi’s boys accomplished a miraculous comaback as they defeated Roma 4-2 after being down 2-0 at half-time.

U-19 EUROPEAN CHAMPIONSHIP: ITALY-REPUBLIC OF IRELAND 0-3

The Italy Under 19 side’s campaign in the European Championship finished with a bad 3-0 loss against the Republic of Ireland. One point would have been enough for Daniele Zoratto’s team to progress to the next round, but a black-out by the Italian youngsters led to a big-margin Ireland victory. The result meant that the winners overtook Italy in the group standings and qualified for the next round with 7 points. As for the Rossoneri in the Italy squad, Giacomo Beretta played 54 minutes (replaced by Carraro), while Mario Sampirisi was sent off on 90 minutes.

Despite the loss, the Rossoneri had a good game and came close to equalising three times, first with Boateng right before the interval, then with Rondanini and Piacenza in the second half. Thanks to their massive 4-0 win in the first leg, coach Beggi’s boys have qualified for the Final Eight, which will be held in Chianciano Terme between June 11 and 16.

ITALY PLAYERS TO GATHER AT COVERCIANO TOMORROW

MILAN - The Azzurri, who went through athletic evaluation on Friday and Saturday ahead of their upcoming European Championship qualifier against Estonia (to be played in Modena with kick-off scheduled for 20.45 CET on Friday, June 3) and a friendly against the Republic of Ireland (Liège, Tuesday, June 7), will gather at Coverciano on Monday, May 30. Coach Prandelli will put his players though their first training session starting at 16.00 CET, while on Tuesday (16.00 CET) a training match against Alberigo Evani's Italy U-18 awaits the Azzurri. The team will leave for Modena on Thursday afternoon. (FIGC)
