NOCERINO: IN THE SHADOW OF GREATNESS

MILAN – Rino Gattuso is Milan “to the death!” And if a man like Gattuso, while these words come out of his mouth, says that Antononio Nocerino could be the next to wear his number 8 shirt, that’s not to be taken lightly. It’s a sign, a stamp, a guarantee.Rino doesn’t see Nocerino as just a goal scorer, but as a player that takes on responsibility, a player of certain values who radiates respect in the Rossoneri changing room, but like the Curva Sud sings (He plays, he scores, he celebrates with us), the goals are there and there’s a lot of them.Nocerino’s numbers in his first season with the club see him flying high: 11 goals, 10 in the league and 1 in the Nou Camp in the Champions League. Two other players in the club’s illustrious history made a similar start to their season….Inzaghi in 2001/2002 and Kakà in 2003/2004. Among the midfielders, the only one who comes close to Andrea Pirlo, with nine goals a season, but unlike Nocerino, he also took the team’s penalties. Clarence Seedorf is no stranger to goal celebrations (62 in his career, touching double figures in 2006/2007 and 2007/2008) either but he never got past 10 goals a season in official club matches.  High number and comparisons to giants won’t unbalance the player, but nevertheless give an idea of the immensity of his season. Noce got quite emotional last weekend. He now knows that the club means and you can believe that he’ll make it his own.

GATTUSO KEEPS THE FLAG FLYING

MILAN - In the summer of 2002, after spending two months away from Milan, Alessandro Costacurta said: "I will not play for an Italian team next season, at the end of the career I want to see the my career statisitcs and only read Milan."In a football, it is often lamented the end of the standard-bearers, was a good sign, then strengthened by the return of Billy from Juventus for another five years, from 2002 to 2007. But these are days now when the concept of the standard-bearer is back on the top step of the podium.
There is no crisis, the standard-bearers are as they have always been with Alessandro Del Piero claiming he would never play for another Italian club against Juventus.
It was a principle strengthened last night, during a link between Coverciano and Studio Milan on Milan Channel where Rino Gattuso said: "If you talk to my agent, you will find that there have already been enquires from Italian teams. But I do not feel like joining them. It is just a short good-bye for now at Milan."

ALLEGRI WINS GOLDEN BRIDLE AWARD

(IN THE PHOTO: The award ceremony yesterday in Siena)MILAN - Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri was in Siena yesterday to receive the Golden Bridle award, where he also took stock of the Rossoneri's season: "This season I would give us a 6.5. We were up by 8 ahead of the meeting with Barcelona after that we were at 5. But we have to congratulate Juve because they won 10 of last 11 games. The head to head meeting has weighed on the title."
On Pirlo: "Juve have improved with him in the side. I never questioned his qualities, but a coach must make choices according to the team and Juve have been able to tailor their game around him."
Nesta, Inzaghi and Gattuso: "To stay at Milan for so long they are, in addition to the technical and physical qualities, players with the great moral qualities. It will not be easy to replace these quality players. Nesta, alongside Baresi, for me is one of the greatest defenders of all time. Inzaghi has been excellent, he knows the characteristics of all the defenders in the league. Even yesterday he knew exactly what to do to embarrass his opponents. Yesterday was their day so I preferred not to talk and leave them to take centre stage."
On Ibrahimovic: I feel that today there is no danger in saying he is the most important member of our team. We have up to August 31st to make moves in the transfer market.
"I believe that today there is no danger of seeing the players from the most important of our squad. As for the market there is time until August 31. We've got two midfielders in as Montolivo and Traore who will give us a hand. We have agreed with President Berlusconi and Galliani on a squad of 25 players. For next season we place great emphasis on Pato's fitness, as he lost a season to injury."
On Tognaccini: "I hope that he remains, he has been here for 14 years and he has done a great job. If he does not stay then we will still remain in good hands."

ALLEGRI FEELS FORTUNATE TO HAVE IBRA AND THIAGO SILVA

MILAN - The Rossoneri coach Massimiliano Allegri has spoken to Italian radio station RTL 102.5 about the end of the season. Here are some of the topics that the technician touched upon: "Coaching champions like Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo is everyone's dream. I am lucky to have Ibrahimavic and Thiago Silva, without taking away anything to those who have quit. I think that over the last 10 years Milan have had some great champions especially Italians. Unfortunately, they are not with us anymore which is bad for Italian football. Inzaghi has once again demonstrated his professionalism and above all I think he had the possibility of closing his time at Milan in the best way possible in Milan and then I do not know if his career is over. This was a beautiful gift, among other things he has scored a beautiful goal: although this year has had some injuries, he still has the quality that is difficult to find in other strikers we have in Italy and Europe."Allegri added: "It is normal that when you are a player you want to feel important, always wants to show what you can do and always play. On, the other hand, there is a coach who  always has to be tough who has to make choices. Yesterday, I thanked Inzaghi as I thanked everyone who played their last game for Milan, for what they gave me during these two years and because they helped us win the title in my first year."
