ONE LAST PUSH

December 19th, 2011 No comments
MILANELLO – Here’s what Allegri had to say at today’s press conference on the eve of Cagliari-Milan:"We have to do everything to make sure we don’t slip up. These are three important points for the league. We have to get back to the top of the table and to do that we have to push forward and win even if it’s tough to do that in Cagliari. They play different at home, they leave very little space. We can think about the holiday after tomorrow.  Our forward are scriing well and for that I feel calm. There could be a bit of mental tiredness but we have to give this one last push: you win the league when you’re not playing well but you manage to bring home the three points nonetheless. We started well against Siena and then we complicated things before pushing on in the second half. We should play with more aggression but we also have to be patient and also be aware of their counter attacks. Cagliari will be a different game from the others. It’s the city and the team that put me into the big time and I’m very tied to that city. I’m always happy to go back there and I have a lot of friends there as well. I talk to the president on the phone all the time. We talk about the team and I explain to him the choices that I take. He sees things before they happen and of course the project goes forward bit by bit. The president likes to see good football. He always buys the classic number 10, talented players, but he knows that to win you need balance even if I agree with most of what he says. My doubts are in the midfield and up front. We’ll get Zamrotta and Antonini back, Mexes and Taiwo played well. Abbiati is available and he might play. There’ no problem with the contract. When we get the numbers right there’ll be no problem. We’ll find an agreement for sure. Pato is a goalscorer. He has an average of a goal every two games. He was out injured for almost a year and he needs to play to get back in shape and he needs someone up front with him while with Leonardo, he played in a different position. He’s always started with me. He had two chances to score on Saturday and he showed the player he is. Milan came out well from the two games against Barcelona. We played as well as they did in Milan and we showed that in Europe we’ve grown a lot and we can push right up until the end. Seedorf played in front of the defence in London and we could do that again. We always play before Juventus lately. It would be nice to take the lead tomorrow and hope that they don’t catch up with us.”

SAN SIRO: A DREAM YEAR

December 19th, 2011 No comments
MILAN – Home defeats hurt the worst. For the players who have let the fans down and of course for the fans themselves. But the San Siro has been a fortress this year with last year’s loss against Roma on 18 December a distant memory. Then came 13 wins and 5 draws. Here are the San Siro wins in 2011:Milan-Cesena 2-0Milan-Parma 4-0Milan-Napoli 3-0Milan-Inter 3-0Milan-Sampdoria 3-0Milan-Bologna 1-0Milan-Cagliari 4-1Milan-Cesena 1-0Milan-Palermo 3-0Milan-Parma 4-1Milan-Catania 4-0Milan-Chievo 4-0Milan-Siena 2-0Here are the draws:Milan-Udinese 4-4Milan-Lazio 0-0Milan-Bari 1-1Milan-Lazio 2-2Milan-Udinese 1-1Goal difference: + 36:46 goals scored10 goals concededOf the 46 goals scored, 8 came from Robinho who can be seen scoring against Palermo in the photo. This should be underlined as some television commentators have started decribing bad misses in front of goal as “alla Robinho”. If other players miss chances, it’s their fault, not his. The Brazilian wizard had already scored 15 goals in the course of last season and is on 3 for this season. In the last two games won by the Rossoneri, the first goal was scored thanks to Robi’s work: In Genova for Ibrahimovic who scored from the penalty spot and at the San Siro against Siena for Nocerino. So there’s also the assist “alla Robinho”. Below we have a table proposed by the readers of the Gazzetta dello Sport the day after Robinho came back from injury:THE RETURNThree reasons why he’s indispensable for Milan:1 He makes the movements more dynamic. 2 He helps the team and is the forward who covers the most ground 3 He gets past men with ease as is his specialty. ADRIANO GALLIANI: "We won’t give in"

December 19th, 2011 No comments
MILAN – Club CEO Adiano Galliani spoke on Italian sports radio this morning: Here’s what he had to say: “You can win with organised play, or you can win with classy players. The league table says that Juve are on top with 33 points and we have 31. We have the squad to fight for the title. We’ll stronger than last year and we’ll fight to the finish. Apart from the deserved loss against the Bianconeri, we’ve done better so far. We won’t give in.” “Milan can do it with the forwards that we have already. We have options but Tevez could be a big help. We’ll see what happens from now until the end of January, but we’re well used to dealing on the last days of the transfer window. An alternative could be Maxi Lopez. I consider him an important player. I like him and so does the coach. We’ve lost Yepes in defense but we’re getting back Mexes. Gattuso is back training and could be back for January. We’re waiting for Flamini as well.”
