Man Utd No1 Van der Sar: Time to finish off AC Milan

Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar is desperate to make history against Champions League opponents AC Milan tomorrow night.

The Italians have been a bogey team for the Reds in the European Cup. In four previous two-legged ties, the Rossoneri have always come out on top.

Van der Sar was in goal for one of those defeats, back in 2007, when after a 3-2 first leg win at Old Trafford the Reds lost 3-0 at the San Siro to exit the competition at the semi-final stage.

“It’s not a case of owing Milan one, but we will want to make sure we don’t make the same mistakes we did a few years ago when they knocked us out at the semi-final stage,” he told ManUtd.com.

“They played particularly well in the home leg here when we won 3-2 and Kaka scored two goals. Then at the San Siro, Clarence Seedorf was fantastic – he was excellent in both games actually. But we got a good result in Milan and now we need to finish it off with a magic night at Old Trafford.

“We’re always confident,” he added. “And I haven’t played a lot in the Champions League yet this season, so I’ve been really looking forward to these games.”

AC Milan, Chelsea step closer to landing Sao Paulo superkid Piazon

AC Milan are monitoring Lucas Piazon's contract dispute with Sao Paulo.

The teenager, who has been likened to Real Madrid star Kaka, is a confirmed target for Milan, where youth team chief Mauro Pederzoli admitted last week they were keeping tabs on the midfielder.

Chelsea have also been linked with Piazon, who is now taking Sao Paulo to a contract tribunal, reports Milannews.it.

The youngster's family are disputing the legitimacy of their agreement with Sao Paulo and the hearing is expected before the weekend. Milan and Chelsea are among European clubs monitoring the situation.

Brown injury adds to Man Utd worries

Another Manchester United defender has joined the injury list with Wes Brown sustaining a suspected broken fifth metatarsal.

The likelihood of him missing Wednesday’s Champions League clash with AC Milan at Old Trafford is enormous, adding to manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s injury worries.

Michael Owen, Anderson, Ryan Giggs, John O’Shea and Jonny Evans will all be missing from the Milan match and star striker Wayne Rooney is also in doubt.

United won the first leg at the San Siro 3-2 but will not be able to rest with a weakened team against a Milan outfit capable of anything as pointed out by goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar.

"It's not a case of owing Milan one, but we will want to make sure we don't make the same mistakes we did a few years ago when they knocked us out at the semi-final stage,” the Dutchman told the club’s official website.

"They played particularly well in the home leg here when we won 3-2 and Kaka scored two goals. Then at the San Siro, Clarence Seedorf was fantastic - he was excellent in both games actually. But we got a good result in Milan and now we need to finish it off with a magic night at Old Trafford."

AC Milan youth chief Pederzoli confirms interest for Chelsea target Lucas Piazon

AC Milan youth chief Mauro Pederzoli has confirmed they're chasing Sao Paulo superkid Lucas Piazon.

The 16 year-old is regarded in Brazil as the best young player to emerge since Real Madrid star Kaka, the former AC Milan hero.

Chelsea have been in talks with the Piazon family for some months, though Milan are also keen.

And Pederzoli confirmed to Milan.it: "He's a guy who we know well, we are following him and recognise him as important, but for now there's nothing more.

"He's still very young, we speak of a boy aged 15-16, we will continue to follow him."

AC Milan challenge Chelsea for Sao Paulo superkid Lucas Piazon

AC Milan are challenging Chelsea for exciting Brazilian teenager Lucas Piazon.

When he was 14, Piazon was regarded as a bigger talent than Kaka for the same age and agreed a deal with Sao Paulo to sign a contract when he turned 16 in January this year.

However, in December, Chelsea came knocking and Piazon's family have been attempting to break the agreement with Sao Paulo. The Brazilian Federation has sided with the local club, but the dispute has seen Piazon frozen out of football.

With the 16 year-old not seeing any action, cash-strapped Sao Paulo know they risk losing money on his transfer and is now expected to sell. Chelsea remain keen, however, Italian sources say Milan are also interested, well aware they can snap up the midfield playmaker for a ridiculously low fee. The youngster is currently on €2,000-a-month.

Palermo president Zamparini: AC Milan ask me weekly for Pastore

February 21st, 2010 tribalfootball.com No comments

Palermo president Maurizio Zamparini admits AC Milan are tracking youngster Javier Pastore.

The Argentine midfielder has been likened to former Milan star Kaka, now of Real Madrid.

"Every Monday [Milan director Ariedo] Braida calls me because he is a big admirer [of Pastore] and he has been following him," Zamparini told Tuttopalermo.net.

"But, even if he [Braida] asks me this summer I will not sell him to Milan."
