THE AZZURRI’S RETURN

MILAN – The national team returned to Italy, after beating home team Estonia 2-1 in yesterday’s Euro 2012 qualifier. The Azzurri’s chartered plane landed in Pisa. Antonio Cassano, the hero of yesterday’s match, was given a warm reception by the airport personnel. The team then headed for Coverciano, where the players will go through a light training session this afternoon, as preparation for the match against the Faroe Islands, to be played on Tuesday in Florence, get under way.

PIRLO: ’We’re satisfied with the result’

MILAN – Italy captain Andrea Pirlo’s comments after the national team beat Estonia: „They caused us some problems on the counter-attack, but our will to win prevailed in the end. We are happy with the result. Everyone here wants to start a new winning-cycle, we want to do well.
Cassano? He did well to equalise. But the whole team wanted this victory at all costs. We’ll play better, we just need time, as the match yesterday evening was only the second time we played together.”
