BERTUZZI: "BIG DERBY ON SUNDAY. HERE’S HOW THE YOUTH SECTOR HAS CHANGED"

April 18th, 2012 No comments
Coach, tell us about the win in the Annovazzi tournament.“It was a pleasing win. Winning, especially against Inter is a very positive thing.”And there’s another derby this weekend.“That’s on Sunday, they’re a strong team. That game’s result will dictate which one of us will get through as first or second in the group. It’s either them or us.”What improvements have you seen in this part of the youth sector in recent years?“The groups have shown that they’ve improved. You can see that with individual players as well, some more than others.”At the Vismara sports centre, you work with cutting edge technologies like MilanLab and Generation Milan. How does that help?“The whole structure is a plus for us. This is a team that works on the technical side of things which for me is the basis. I’m convinced that there also have to be values that we have to teach the young players as well. At the Annovazzi tournament you could see the team spirit and the desire to give everything they could. We also have to remember that these are kids as well. They can grow in spurts but they can also have bad periods too.”You talked about the technical side of things. Can you elaborate on that?“That the side of things that we coaches have to take care of. In certain age groups the technical side has to be emphasized more and then that can be seen as the players grow.”The youth sector, thanks to the investment from the club is getting results and you’re contributing to that.“I came back to a worrying situation. In the last few years thanks to Bianchessi, Filippo Galli, Broli and other working here, things are changing. Behind the club’s investment, there’s also the work of individuals because players have to be educated. In three years we’ve won a lot. We’ve won the giovanissimi nazionali title 2009-10, Allievi Nazionali 2010-11 and a Primavera Italian Cup. I’m convinced that all the teams have at least one player who could emerge.”In conclusion, how much pressure does the name ‘Milan’ put on these young players?“On one hand, it’s easier for them because of the structure that we have in place here. On the other hand, our adversaries usually give that bit extra when they play us. But we always have the duty to get as far as we can in every competition.”
